FSNA Edmonton Branch held its May 15, 2013 General Membership Meeting (GMM) at the Royal Canadian Legion, Kingsway Branch 175, 14339 – 50 Street, Edmonton with 200 members in attendance. Dinner commenced at 6:00 pm followed by a presentation by Shannon Patershuk and Staci Hajjar of Johnson Insurance on the FSNA MEDOC Travel Insurance Affinity Program. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by Branch President Brian Emdin.
Dave Riffel, Past President and Chair of the By-Laws Committee, gave Notice of Motion that a new set of bylaws would be presented for adoption at our Annual General Meeting on September 11, 2013. The draft by-laws are available for members on our branch website here. They can also be sent to members by e-mail or mail by contacting branch secretary, Lillian June.
Dave also reported on the seven Edmonton Branch Resolutions that were submitted for consideration at the FSNA National AGM 2013 in Ottawa June 18-20, 2013.
Ross Gillespie, 1st VP and Chair of the Website Committee, gave a presentation of our new branch website and asked for input from the membership as the website continues to develop.
It was also announced that our branch has a new toll free telephone number. Members who live outside of the Edmonton calling area can reach us at: 1 855 FSNA EDM (1 855-376 2336)
Brian Emdin, President, gave explanation regarding the advocacy document that was being distributed for members to take action upon to stop the means testing plan that the current Alberta Government is implementing Jan.1, 2014, as the damaging ramifications from this means testing will not only affect current seniors but future generations.
On behalf of committee chair, Agnes Kennedy, Jacqueline Blevins, from the Membership/Social/Phone Committee, introduced the idea of an Edmonton Branch Members Conference and asked for suggestions of topics, speakers, venues, etc. that members would like to see. More information can be seen here.
