Current Issues and Concerns

Income Testing of Alberta Health Care Benefits for Seniors

Edmonton Branch is discussing this issue with other  Alberta FSNA Branches. We plan to work with other Seniors Organizations in Alberta to protest this action. It is quite possible that the province will not announce details of the plan until when, or just before, it is scheduled to become effective on January 1, 2014. It is impossible to protest the specifics of the plan when they are not known.

FSNA National Organization Restructuring

Our National Organization is restructuring to meet the requirements of the new Canada Not-For-Profit Act. Our charter, bylaws and regulations must all be revised. Certain aspects of our current national structure cannot exist under the new legislation. It is a very complex activity which will impact individual branches, our regional organization as well as our national structure. The next major step takes place at the national Annual General Meeting in Ottawa June 18th – 20th, 2013, where an over-all structure will be presented for approval. A complete set of bylaws and regulations will be presented at the June, 2014 AGM to meet the legislation deadline for compliance with the new act by October, 2014.
